Frequently Asked Questions
NEED TO KNOW
What should I bring?
You don’t need any fencing-specific equipment to start with. The club can supply all the protective gear you need, but of course if you have some already, feel free to bring it along and we’ll take a look at it.
Wear a T-shirt or other light top, and tracksuit bottoms. Jeans are too heavy to fence in, and the pockets can catch the point of a sword, which is dangerous. No shorts are a definite no-no, as they leave the legs unprotected.
Non-marking trainers or court shoes
Bottle of water or squash - you will lose fluid, so you need to drink. We have a water fountain in case you forget.
What does a beginners course involve?
The course runs for six weekly sessions, taking you through the basics of fencing with a foil, which is the first weapon we and most other clubs recommend you learn.
Each session is led by a qualified BFA coach and senior club members.
All fencing and safety equipment is provided by the club, and you will need to wear normal fitness clothing - t-shirt, trainers and tracksuit bottoms are ideal. The cost is £50 for six sessions of coaching/tuition (£25 for juniors and students), payable on the first evening – the fee includes all the safety gear and coaching.
If you would like more details on our next beginners' course, please email the club secretary (secretary@droitwichfencing.co.uk).
What are the current COVID-19 precautions?
We work under the guidelines from the British Fencing Association (BFA). Currently there are no additional restrictions, but if you have any queries or concerns, please contact the secretary.
